Divisive pop singer Justin Bieber has taken to social media to apologise for his past actions in an emotional post which sees him confront the “quite unexplainable” effects of child stardom.

For over a decade now, Justin Bieber has drawn the ire of numerous observers around the world. Whether its naysayers of pop music writing off his music, or those who don’t agree with his lavish lifestyle, the divisive Canadian musician (and noted Tool fan) has often found himself in the firing line in some way.

In fact, Bieber drew newfound criticism earlier this year after an Icelandic canyon was shut down due to an influx of his fans wanting to visit a location portrayed in one of his music videos.

Now though, the pop singer has taken to Instagram to share an emotional post in which he has apologised for his actions in the past, and explained that much of his behaviour was due to the negative effects of stardom.

“I am fortunate to have people I’m life that continue encourage me to keep going,” Bieber wrote in his post. “You see I have a lot of money , clothes cars , accolades, achievements, awards and I was still unfulfilled.

“Have u noticed the statistics of child stars and the outcome of their life? There is an insane pressure and responsibility put on a child who’s brain, emotions, frontal lobes (decision making) aren’t developed yet. No rationality, defiant, rebellious, things all of us have to go through.

“But when you add the pressure of stardom it does something to you that is quite unexplainable.”

“I went from a 13 year old boy from a small town to being praised left and right by the world with millions saying how much they loved me and how great I was,” Justin Bieber continued. “I don’t know about you but humility comes with age.

“You hear theses things enough as a young boy and you actually start believing it, Rationality comes with age and so does your decision making process ( one of the reasons you can’t drink until your 21) .. everyone did everything for me so I never even learned the fundamentals of responsibility.

“By 20 I made every bad decision you could have thought of and went from one of the most loved and adored people in the world to the most ridiculed, judged and hated person in the world!”

Outlining his descent into hard drugs, abusive relationships, and how he had become “resentful, disrespectful to women”, Bieber noted how it has taken him “years to bounce back from all of these terrible decisions, fix broken relationships, and change relationship habits.”

Thanking his new wife, Hailey Baldwin, for her positive impact on his life, Bieber noted how he has managed to grow as a person and adopt a new outlook on life, undoubtedly hinting towards less of a controversial lifestyle for the future.

Whatever your opinion on Justin Bieber may be, there’s no denying the fact that a post like this is incredibly self-aware and mature, and shows a level of growth not seen in many controversial pop icons like himself. Here’s hoping this attitude manages to continue onwards into the future.
