The music world is now in mourning with the news of the death of The Muffs’ singer-guitarist Kim Shattuck at the age of 56 after a battle with ALS.

The news was relayed by Melanie Vammen, one of Shattuck’s bandmates in the Muffs, who had shared an Instagram post from Shattuck’s husband Kevin Sutherland.

You can view the full post below. According to the post, Kim Shattuck “passed peacefully in her sleep after a two year struggle with ALS“.

“This morning the love of my life Kim passed peacefully in her sleep after a two year struggle with ALS. I am the man I am today because of her. She will live with all of us through her music, our shared memories and in her fierce creative spirit. I love you forever my Kimmy. Thank you for sharing your life…,” said Sutherland. “My heart is broken,” also added Vammen in her posting. The Muffs had recorded six studio albums and have their seventh, No Holiday, planned for an Oct. 18 release.
