King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard are currently holed up in a Melbourne studio recording a collaborative album with L.A. based artists Mild High Club; one of five albums the maddeningly-prolific Melbourne band plan to release in 2017.

For those playing at home, that will mean the band will have 13 records in just six years. Their ninth album, Flying Microtonal Banana, is slated for release on February 24.

Those of you who recently attended psychedelic festival Gizzfest will be familiar with Mild High Club, the solo(ish) project of L.A-based, Chicago-bred Alexander Brettin, who puts his own ’60s-leaning records out through the brilliant Stones Throw label.

Brettin is used to collaborating with artists who skew left of centre, having worked with lo-fi brat Ariel Pink and the prolific R Stevie Moore in the past.

We can’t imagine any of those artists – odd as their output may be – will compare to our King Gizz. All we know about this current project is what ringleader/frontman Stu MacKenzie told NME: that it’s “kinda jazzy.”

This album is going to be insane!
