Laneway Festival has always marked the end of Summer for the festival season, but in Sydney, it seems that there are simply too many punters wanting to partake in festivities

Always a good problem to have, the festival has announced today that it will be holding it’s 2020 Sydney instalment in the iconic Domain, the same space that hosts Field Day.

A statement by the organisers cited accessibility and production capability as key reasons for shifting location for 2020.

“We’ve had 10 amazing years at the Sydney College of the Arts and Callan Park and we’ll forever be grateful for the support of the local community who gave the festival a Sydney home,” said organisers.

“We decided that it was time to move back into the city so we could present the show with the best possible staging, sound and overall accessibility both in and around the event.

“We can’t wait to present Laneway in this stunning world-class location.”

The festival will be joining some big names to host events on the grass under the Sydney skyline, with the likes of Midnight Oil, Paul Kelley The XX all gracing the Domain turf in years gone by.

It’s a big change for the festival that began as a little rock show in the lanes of the Melbourne CBD (Melbourne has also seen a site expansion in recent times).

While maybe not the traditional pop-up fest that it used to be, bigger stages and crowds can only be good for acts coming through the country. Bring on 2020.
