Lil Nas X is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed facility following his arrest and arraignment on multiple felony charges last month.
The Grammy-winning artist, born Montero Hill, appeared in court via his legal representation on Monday, where Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Shellie Samuels modified the conditions of his release to accommodate his ongoing inpatient care.
“Defendant is allowed to remain out of state as long as he remains in treatment,” Judge Samuels stated during the hearing (as per Rolling Stone). She added that if Hill’s “treatment changes, and he becomes outpatient, then we’ll talk,” while setting the next court hearing for November. The judge sealed specific details regarding the type of care Hill is receiving.
Hill’s lawyer, Drew Findling, addressed the situation following the hearing. “You heard the ‘treatment’ word. We’re doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint, but most importantly, for his well-being,” Findling explained. “He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him. And we’re just addressing those issues.”
The legal proceedings stem from an incident that occurred on August 21st, when Hill was charged with three felony counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer. Prosecutors allege that Hill was “strolling naked” along Ventura Boulevard around 5:40am when police arrived at the scene. They claim Hill assaulted the responding officers who were attempting to take him into custody, resulting in injuries to at least three officers.
Hill pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on August 25th and was released on a $75,000 bond after spending the weekend in jail. If convicted as charged, he faces up to five years in state prison.
Following his release, Hill addressed the arrest through social media. “Your girl is gonna be OK, y’all,” Hill said in an Instagram Story post. “She’s gonna be all right. That was fucking terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days. But your girl is gonna be all right.”
Bystander footage posted on TMZ showed Hill walking in the street wearing underwear and cowboy boots, with one clip capturing him with an orange traffic cone on his head. Prior to the arrest, Hill had shared unreleased music and mirror selfies on Instagram that sparked concern amongst fans.
Los Angeles Police initially transported Hill to a nearby hospital for a possible overdose before taking him to jail several hours later. Hill’s father, Robert Stafford, travelled to Los Angeles to support the “Old Town Road” rapper.
Stafford attributed the incident in an interview with The Times to “pressure” that Hill places on himself as an artist and the “breadwinner” for multiple people.
