Anticipation has been building over the past couple of months for Melbourne rapper Remi’s new mixtape, Call It What You Want (F.Y.G. ACT:2), which the acclaimed rhyme-slinger has referred to as “a super eclectic collection of sounds and influences”.

Indeed, the mixtape, which the Triple J unearthed and Cooper’s AMP winner unleashed for free on SoundCloud, features several samples that you wouldn’t normally see on your typical hip-hop mixtape, include cuts from Nick Cave, Tool, and Radiohead.

Opening track ‘Put It Down’ is built around a sample of Nick Cave’s ‘15 Feet of Pure White Snow’ from 2001’s No More Shall We Part, it’s followed by ‘Weirdos (From Planet HOB)’, which samples Radiohead’s Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, while ‘There Goes The Neighbourhood’ flips Tool’s ‘Schism’.

The mixtape is comprised of seven tracks and serves as the sequel to the rapper’s 2013 mixtape, F.Y.G.ACT:1. “Certain tracks on here will no doubt surprise a lot of people, but we think that’s a good thing,” he said of the new release.

Readers can check out the mixtape below, which also features snippets of krautrock icons Can, homegrown heroes Hiatus Kaiyote, dad rock superstars The Police, and king of pop Michael Jackson – looks like Remi’s delivering on that “super eclectic” promise.

In other Remi news, the rapper’s got quite the schedule lined up over the next few months. He’ll be hitting the road this June to play Come Together festival, before a set of national headline dates and a spot on the recently announced Soulfest 2015 lineup.
