Review: The Jezabels at Florida Beach Bar, Terrigal, March 17 2019
The Jezabels have spent years mastering their craft – over 10 to be exact. Throughout that time, they have managed to carve out an enduring legacy for themselves in the indie-rock scene, and have come as close as a band can to perfecting a live show while still maintaining the roughness and authenticity that comes with putting on an amazing rock performance.
And an amazing performance was just what their die-hard audience want to see. Despite it being three years since they released their last album Synthia – which charted in the ARIA top 5-, the crowd filled the Florida Beach Bar in Terrigal from the early afternoon, with the excitement and energy palpable throughout the entire venue.
The Jezabels teamed up with Corona, who have a long-standing history of bringing incredible Aussie acts to rural towns around Australia. Their Australian Marketing Manager, Shencina Conway, explained:
“The Jezabels is Corona’s first tour of 2019 and they join an incredible list of Australian and international artists that have played at venues all over the country for Corona SunSets, including Grammy Award winners Portugal. The Man, triple j favourites Cloud Control and The Rubens, and in the past six months Touch Sensitive and Boo Seeka,”

“There’s no better way to bring our Corona community together than with an evening of awesome music, sunsets and buckets of icy cold cervezas.”
Despite the dreary weather outside, the band were in action to bring some serious Endless Summer vibes. They kicked their set off with ‘Mace Spray’, a moody indie-rock banger that catapulted the set forward with its booming drums and Hayley’s luscious and unique vocals, a voice that could give Stevie Knicks a run for her money. You could tell as soon as they started that a genuine fanbase had arrived to celebrate and boogie out the end of summer, chanting enthusiastically along to their favourite songs.
The delicious 11 song set featured all their hits, including ‘Endless Summer’, ‘The Others’, ‘The End’ and a slew of more mosh-worthy bangers. This run of shows was the first time in a while that the band had toured Australia together, but if you didn’t know that, you would never be able to tell.
Closing the night with their driving – and slightly emo – anthem ‘Hurt Me’ was the perfect end to a sublime performance, which definitely left the audience wanting more – the sign of a greatly played set.
