Earlier today we wrote about a Violent Soho fan who’s so obsessed with the Queensland rockers that he’s actually embarked on his own makeshift promo campaign for the band’s new album, the highly anticipated Waco.
In an age where music is increasingly seen as something disposable and free of charge, it warmed our hearts to see there are still true fans out there that not only support their bands, they hit the ground and give them a helping hand.
Well, we like it just as much when we see bands being super cool to their fans, too. Case in point, three-piece rockers Red Engine Caves recently gave back to their fans in a big way during a gig at Mojo’s in their hometown of Fremantle.
The trio addressed the crowd after the last support band had wrapped up their set to make a surprise announcement: all of the door money from the night will be put on the bar so everybody can drink for free for the rest of the night.
“The majority of the venue moves to the outside courtyard between sets and the announcement was made to around thirty punters remaining inside,” the band recount. “The word quickly spread outside and the room instantly began to flood with thirsty bodies pouring in from the courtyard.”
With the supports paid by the venue, the band decided to turn their Mojo’s gig into a secret “fundraiser” for their fans. The band will be launching their new track, ‘Purple Pam’, from their upcoming album on 27th February at The Rosemount in Perth.
