Lorde is back, it seems, and she’s giving us the first taste of new music since Solar Power in 2021.
On April 9th, the artist dropped a snippet of an unreleased track on her official TikTok, along with a brief video of her strolling through New York’s Washington Square Park.
In the clip, she films herself singing the lyrics: “Since I was 17/I gave you everything/Now we wake from a dream/Well baby, what was that?”
The seconds-long post marks Lorde’s first-ever TikTok appearance.

Along with the TikTok reveal, Lorde has scrubbed her official website and Instagram clean, sparking speculation that new music is imminent. Fans have been eagerly waiting for her fourth studio album, especially since July when she teased a brief snippet of a new track on Instagram, adding “Will be back in touch.” In August, producer Jim-E Stack hinted at a collaboration, sharing a photo of Lorde working on her laptop.

The TikTok clip hints that Lorde might be returning to her moody, synth-pop roots after Solar Power‘s sun-soaked, breezy vibe.
It’s been nearly four years since Solar Power dropped in August 2021, following her 2017 smash Melodrama. Since then, Lorde’s only releases have been a few select collaborations, including a cover of “Take Me to the River” for a Talking Heads tribute album and a guest spot on Marlon Williams’ Te Whare Tīwekaweka.
Last year, she also joined Charli XCX for a remix of “Girl, So Confusing”, which made it onto Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Songs of 2024.
Speaking of her collab with Williams, Lorde said, “Singing with Marlon is one of my favourite things to do on earth, whether we are tipsy backstage by a pool table or in a luscious studio, and I was honoured he asked me to sing with him on this album. I’m so proud of my friend.
In other Lorde-related news, Dua Lipa covered “Royals” by Lorde at the Auckland, New Zealand stop on the ‘Radical Optimism’ tour.
