A 55-year-old man in Greater Manchester could face jail if he is unable to contain his late-night love affair with ‘Born Slippy’ by Underworld.

Cast your mind back to 1996 for a moment, and you might recall just how massive Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting was.

An adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel of the same name, the Ewan McGregor-starring film was also noted for its influential soundtrack, which featured a number of alt-rock and electronica artists of the era.

However, one of the most notable tracks on the soundtrack was undoubtedly the iconic ‘.NUXX’ mix of ‘Born Slippy’ by Underworld. A instant classic of mid-’90s techno, the tune climbed charts around the world, and almost cracked the ten in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 1996.

Now, one man’s undying love of the tune has seen him get into a little bit of strife.

As The Manchester Evening News reports, 55-year-old Clyde Taylor has gained a bit of a reputation for his late-night love of ‘Born Slippy’, pumping the jam until 3am on numerous occasions.

Following numerous complaints from neighbours, officials reportedly seized Taylor’s “stereo equipment, speakers, large screen television, amplifiers, and electric guitar” on two seperate occasions, only him to replace the equipment, and continuously play his music and electric guitar late at night.

After these polite requests turned into confiscation of his possessions, Taylor has now been slapped with an order than prevents him from “permitting music to be played at a level that can be heard outside the property”.

This order reportedly lasts five years, with Taylor being warned that if he is found to be in breach of the other, he could potentially be arrested and jailed for his late-night rave habits.

Speaking to The Manchester Evening News, councillor David Lancaster explained that this “unprecedented case” could have been avoided completely if Mr. Taylor had simply exercised “a bit of neighbourly consideration.”

“We will always try to resolve noise complaints without resorting to the law but if people refuse to be reasonable and considerate then we will use our full powers,” Mr. Lancaster explained.

“It is the first time we have used a criminal behaviour order to tackle noise nuisance but, if need be, it will not be the last time we use these powers.

“We will be monitoring the property and I hope the gentleman fully appreciates if he breaches the order he could be jailed. We will have no hesitation in going back to court if this nuisance doesn’t stop.”

While it remains to be seen whether or not Clyde Taylor will indeed soundtrack his evenings with a bit of Underworld in the future, the fact remains that it’s an absolute belter of a track.

Seriously, give it a listen and try not shouting “lager, lager, lager” at the top of your lungs. It simply can’t be done.
