Legendary songwriter Marianne Faithfull has been hospitalised for COVID-19. The 73-year-old musician checked herself into a London hospital on March 30th after a few days of experiencing symptoms.

“Marianne Faithfull’s manager François Ravard has confirmed that Marianne is being treated for COVID-19 in hospital in London,” a representative told Rolling Stone. “She is stable and responding to treatment. We all wish her well and a full and speedy recovery.”

Faithfull has suffered from a litany of illnesses in the past. She battled anorexia amid homelessness in central London in the 1970s, where she was also addicted to heroin. In 2006 she underwent surgery for breast cancer. In 2007 she revealed her hepatitis C diagnosis — which had been identified 12 years prior. She also suffers from arthritis and a hip injury that resulted in her cancelling a 2015 tour.

Throughout all this the Swinging London poet has prolifically released music. In 2018 she released her stunning, revelatory and reflective 21st album, Negative Capacity.
