Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden is taking a “leave of absence” from the band, following his arrest on a charge of intimate partner violence.
Madden was arrested on June 28th on the felony charge under California’s 273.5(a) penal code, which cites anyone who inflicts an injury that leaves a spouse or cohabitant “in a traumatic condition.” He was released on the same day after posting $50,000 bail.
“We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news,” a representative for Maroon 5 said in a statement at the time. “As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously. For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through.”
Madden has now confirmed that he will be stepping away from the band, which should be a given.
“I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future,” Madden shared in a statement to People. “During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.”

The band announced via a statement on Twitter that Meighan would be stepping down from Kasabian in a decision made by mutual consent.
“Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for some time,” the post read. “[he] now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track.”
The band went on to release an additional statement, outlining that “there is absolutely no way we can condone his assault conviction.”
“As soon as we found out about the charges made against Tom, we as a band made the decision that we could no longer work with him.” the statement read. “Unfortunately we had to hold back this information until he was found guilty in court.”
