Iconic radio duo Matt & Alex are at it again, recreating the video for Vance Joy’s ‘Riptide’ as part of their upcoming ARIA Awards reunion.
When Matt & Alex announced that they would be departing the triple j airwaves in 2016, you could barely hear the news over the sound of thousands of hearts collectively breaking around the country.
Since then, there’s been calls for a full-fledged on-air reunion for the pair, while Matt Okine himself said he “wouldn’t rule out” a return to radio for he and Alex Dyson.
With the 2019 ARIA Awards taking place on November 27th, the pair announced last week that they will be getting back together for the event, with the news being announced via the ARIAs’ partnership with YouTube Music.
Now, they’ve given us a reminder of why we love them so much, sharing a recreation of Vance Joy’s video for the classic Hottest 100-topper, ‘Riptide’.
Featuring Matt & Alex at their comedic best, the duo follow along with the lyrics, adding their own humorous take on some of Vance’s lines. “All my friends are turning green“? Yep, you’ll be seeing the radio icons dressed in goth chic embracing an eco-friendly lifestyle.
So, why have they recreated the video? Well, if you cast your mind back to the 2013 awards, you might recall how Vance Joy scored a nomination for the Dimitri Basil-directed clip in the Best Video category.

Now, Matt & Alex are set to present that same award at the ceremony later this month, with the pair making their plans clear during the parody.
“Oi Ratdog. YouTube Music want us to present the ARIA Award for ‘Best Video’. You down?” Okine can be seen asking Dyson via some dramatic acting and captions.
“You could’ve just asked instead of staging this elaborate parody,” comes the reply.
The 2019 ARIA Awards are set to take place the Star Event Centre, and broadcast around Australia on the Nine Network. Check out the full list of nominees here.
