‘Walking on a String’, the collaborative effort between Matt Berninger of The National and Phoebe Bridgers, was recorded with members of the Walkmen for Zach Galifianakis’ new Netflix film.

The National’s Matt Berninger and singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers have teamed up for a new track featured in Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns: The Movie, which is out today on Netflix. The song is called ‘Walking on a String,’ and unfortunately we won’t be able to get our hands on it until October 17. You can however watch the duo perform the song in the middle of the film.

‘Walking on a String’ was written for Between Two Ferns by Berninger in collaboration with his wife and frequent National collaborator Carin Besser. It was recorded with Walter Martin and Matt Barrick of the Walkmen and produced by Bridgers, Tony Berg, and Ethan Gruska. It’s the first joint song from Berninger and Bridgers.

But this isn’t the first time The National has teamed up with Phoebe.

Performing 13 of the 16 tracks on I Am Easy To Find, The National teamed up with the likes of Feist for ‘You Had Your Soul With You’, ‘Hey Rosey’, ‘Hairpin Turns’, and ‘Not In Kansas’, while Phoebe Bridgers joined the band for ‘Where Is Her Head’ and ‘Rylan’, earlier this year.

According to Pitchfork, Kate Stables and Mina Tindle performed their respective parts on the album, while Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry guested on a special version of ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio’.

In addition to this unique performance, the group also screened their new Mike Mills-directed film, also titled I Am Easy To Find, with a Q&A session from actress Alicia Vikander and Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney and Portlandia fame.

The National are set to tour with Phoebe Bridgers for their 2020 Australian tour, celebrating the release of their brand new album I Am Easy To Find.
