Get ready to cosy on up to fifteen minutes of funk-soul goodness.

The debut release from Melbourne-based Maxi Vauzelle offers up four delightful grooves plus an intro of smooth sounds and layered vocals.

The fittingly titled opening track, ‘Intro’, is a vocally driven feast that showcases Maxi’s soulful and seductive voice. The textured vocals are captivating and offer a slight taste of what’s to come.

The songstress’ debut single ‘In A Little While’ features on the EP and was met with notable interest when it was released earlier this year. For good reason, its easy to see why given the track’s retro-inspired synths and harmonies in this catchy soul-pop number.

The EP closes with ‘Heaven Helped You Down’. The tune features a steady rhythm that builds into a larger sound,  integrating bells, rolling drums and harmonious vocals. The song is more dramatic than catchy but just as enjoyable as other tracks by the up and coming musician.

Maxi’s self-titled debut incorporates soothing vocals, a strong horn section and percussion arrangements that make for tunes reminiscent of gospel choirs, jazz numbers and 70s soul divas.

In fact, many have suitably taken to using old-school terms such as ‘groovy’ and ‘funky’ to describe Maxi’s sound, but more accurately, this is music to relax and get lost in.
