Californian dream-pop legends Mazzy Star are well and truly choosing 2018 to be their year, with the group today releasing their first new tune in four years.

After forming back in 1988, Mazzy Star undoubtedly saw their greatest success with the release of their single ‘Fade Into You’ back in 1993. (Or, if you’re a fan of Rick & Morty, you might be more familiar with their song ‘Look On Down From The Bridge.’) After breaking up in 1997, and reforming briefly in 2000, the group embarked upon a second coming when they reunited for a four-year period from 2010 until 2014.

Since then, things have been rather quiet, and following the release of 2013’s Seasons Of Your Day, the group have only unleashed two new tunes, ‘I’m Less Here’ and ‘Things’, for Record Store Day in 2014. Following the news that drummer Keith Mitchell had passed away in 2017, many thought that the band were set to stay apart for good.

However, last month saw Vivid LIVE 2018 announce this year’s lineup, which just so happened to feature Mazzy Star’s debut Aussie dates – their first live shows in five years. Now, while fans are still reeling over the fact that the band are indeed back, they’ve gone and done one better, releasing their first new tune in four years.

As Consequence Of Sound reports, the band are set to release a brand new EP, Still, on June 1st. Featuring three new tracks and an “Acension” version of ‘So Tonight That I Might See’, the group have today premiered opening track ‘Quiet, The Winter Harbour’. The group’s first major release in five years, this EP is set to mark what looks to be a brand new period of activity for the group.

Mazzy Star are set to perform in Australia for the first time as part of Vivid LIVE 2018 this June. Be sure to check out the Vivid LIVE website for more information and ticketing details.
