The Meat Puppets Australian Tour 2014 has expanded, as the influential band add two more dates to the itinerary for their imminent visit Down Under.

Having already been announced to headline CherryRock 2014 in Melbourne (the last ever!) and the newly expanded Sydney leg, Meat Puppets have added not one, but two extra dates to their forthcoming Australian Tour, playing Melbourne’s Ding Dong Lounge this May.

At the first special show, on Tuesday 27th May, Meat Puppets will play a short acoustic set to accompany the opening of an exhibit of band member Cris Kirkwood’s art, featuring over 30 pieces of his work at Ding Dong Lounge along with a Meet ‘n’ Greet opportunity with the band. Tickets for this exclusive event will only be available on the door, for just $20!

The following night, the band will bring the full Meat Puppets live experience to the stage of Ding Dong Lounge, on Wednesday 28th May, featuring bassist Cris, his brother Curt Kirkwood, drummer Shandon Sahm (son of Doug Sahm) and new addition on second guitar, Curt’s son, Elmo Kirkwood. The rest of first Meat Puppets Australian tour dates, their first Down Under in over 20 years, include hitting Brisbane’s The Zoo, Adelaide’s Fowler’s Live, and Perth’s Astor following their appearances at CherryFest 2014 in Melbourne and Sydney.

With a career that has spanned four decades, the Meat Puppets have witnessed countless musical movements and fads come and go, but despite it all, have stuck to their guns and retained a dedicated fan base.

Along the way, the Puppets have made admirers out of some of rock’s most renowned names – most obviously Kurt Cobain, who personally invited the Puppets to appear on Nirvana’s classic performance, MTV Unplugged in New York – and have amassed a canon of timeless songs (“Plateau,” “Lake of Fire,” “Up on the Sun,” “Backwater,” etc.).

With classic albums like Meat Puppets IIUp on the Sun, and Too High to Die, the band has inspired not only the renowned Nirvana, but also made admirers out of influential guitar bands such as Pavement, Soundgarden and Dinosaur Jr .

Following the reunion of Curt and Cris Kirkwood, and the 2012 release of the band’s biography Too High to Die: Meet the Meat Puppets, the band’s iconic status seems assured. Throughout 2013, the Meat Puppets relentlessly toured in support of their acclaimed album Rat Farm, continuing to build upon their spiky punk flavours with country and psychedelic rock touches, which they’ve honed since 1981.

Don’t mis your chance at an audience with one of rock’s rarest musical entities.
