Sometimes, it really pays to live in Melbourne. As we previously noted, when we unveiled our list of 11 Of Australia’s Best New Live Music Venues back in March, we noticed that Melbourne and Sydney got the lion’s share of Australia’s new venues.
We also very recently reported on the opening of Blue Basement, a very cool new live music venue set to cater to Melbourne’s jazz crowd. It’s even partnered up with New York City’s iconic Birdland club, which has seen performances from the likes of Miles Davis and Billie Holiday.
Now, Melbourne has once again proved itself as one of the world’s go-to live music destinations with the unveiling of W4, a new warehouse-style live music venue located in Melbourne’s CBD, which is set to have its grand opening tonight.
As The Music reports, W4 is the latest venture from hospitality and entertainment collective The Luminosty Group and is located in an abandoned warehouse below the site of Roxannes and adjacent to much-loved karaoke and pool bar Charltons.
The space boasts a 350-person capacity, and a second storey band room known as the W4 Parlour can fit 200 more. Best of all, with Marco Schirru at the helm of talent booking, the space has already secured some notable acts to perform.
The venue was unofficially opened last week with an appearance from Flight Facilities, who performed their first DJ set in eight years. Meanwhile, tonight’s opening will feature performances from Sydney vocal talent Ngaiire and Melbourne’s own Champagne Internet.
