Given the impressive abundance of live music flooding our shores and packing our pubs this Summer, a variation in venue is always encouraged, and with The Melbourne Zoo’s annual Zoo Twilights approaching us and an exciting line up now announced, what better excuse to encourage the event’s contention of ‘Music Against Wildlife Extinction’.

Next year’s Zoo Twilights programme will host an array of diverse Australian acts over 14 consecutive Friday and Saturday nights spanning from the 25th of January through to the 9th of March against the magical backdrop of The Melbourne Zoo.

The entire abundance of award-winning artists includes Missy Higgins, The Bamboos with Tim Rogers, Lisa Mitchell, Husky, and Clare Bowditch, to name a few, have all been announced with dates and support acts also up on The Zoo’s website for any old ape to see.

With a howling all-Australian lineup every man and his monkey will be down early with eight time ARIA award winner Missy Higgins kicking off the spacious 14 night event on Friday the 25th of January with support from Melbourne based up and comer Hayden Calnin.

Other highlights include the eclectic pairing of the alternative folk stylings of Husky with cabaret act Die Roten Punkte; the swirling dream-pop of Owl Eyes supporting the effervescent Findlay sisters of Stonefield. While the iconic funk fuelled soul of Tim Rogers & The Bamboos will team up with Electric Empire on the 1st March.

Wide-spread musical talent aside, the elaborate event was originally put together to stress the importance of conserving locally threatened animals and in a press release put out yesterday the event’s contention of fixing said problem is evident – with all proceeds going to Zoos Victoria to fight wildlife extinction.

As you would hope the purchase of tickets for the event will include access to selected exhibits across the late afternoon with children four and under entering for free.

It seems we’re set for another summer of great local music with the 2013 Zoo Twilights looking more exciting than ever, and with the entertaining combination of great local music and interesting and adorable wildlife, the event’s location – if nothing else – will surely tower over your average beer soaked venue.
