A 13-year-old drummer has just become the envy of all his schoolmates, performing alongside Metallica during their recent show in the Netherlands.
Do you remember what you did for your 13th birthday? The chances are good that you had a party, a family dinner, or maybe even received a few nifty gifts. However, the chances are equally as good that it didn’t involve you getting onstage with your favourite rock band.
Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of artists bring fans onstage for a performance. Why, Bruce Springsteen has done it, and you’d better believe that the Foo Fighters have done it.
However, during a recent show in Amsterdam, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich decided to give up his stool to make way for 13-year-old drummer Evan Adamson, who sat in on a performance of ‘Seek & Destroy’.

As the group got ready to perform the last song of their main set on Tuesday night, Evan Adamson was brought onstage to sit in on the drums for a brief moment, having met the group prior to the show.
“Oh god, Lars shrunk,” frontman James Hetfield jokes upon seeing Adamson. “They put Lars in the wash. Told them not to put him in the dryer.”
As Lars Ulrich gave some words of encouragement to the teenager, the group kicked off a stunning performance of ‘Seek & Destroy’, with Adamson deftly pounding the skins for the opening bars of the track.
After a few moments though, Lars returned to take over from the newly-recruited percussionist, as he took his leave from the stage, undoubtedly stoked to tell all his fans about what happened.
Taking to Instagram later, Evan Adamson expressed his excitement at being able to play with the legendary Metallica on his birthday.
“Well well well no words,” he began. “I mean to play drums in front of 68,000 people with my hero’s my favourite band of all time was just the best thing ever and to top it all off it was my bday.”
In related news, Metallica are set to make their return to Australia this October when they play their first shows in the country since 2013. Touring with the mighty Slipknot, these shows are set to be some of the biggest and most ferocious local audiences have ever seen.
