Hold onto your hats, metal-lovers, because Metallica and Slipknot have just announced the heaviest tour you’ll find anywhere this year.

If you were to ask anyone who two of the biggest names in heavy metal are, any answer would undoubtedly include the names Metallica and Slipknot. Now, the giants of the genre are heading down under later this year in what promises to be the tour to end all tours.

Last in the country for Soundwave in 2013, Metallica released their tenth album – Hardwired… to Self-Destruct – in 2016, though we had been eagerly waiting for their WorldWired tour to make its way down to our neck of the woods.

In 2018 though, Lars Ulrich got us all excited by noting that while their tour does have to end at some point, there were plenty of places left to visit.

“I mean obviously there’s an end at some point,” Ulrich explained. “We gotta just sit and look. There’s Japan. There’s Australia. There’s New Zealand.”

“There’s a couple other pockets that obviously Metallica has a long and very cool relationship with, so we just gotta sit down and figure it out.”

Now, as Metallica currently wraps up a US tour and with some European dates on the way, it appears that our prayers have been answered, announcing their plans to hit up Australia this October.

Coming along for the ride though is one of the biggest groups to have emerged from the nu metal era, with Slipknot making their way back to Australia for the first time since 2016.

While it’s currently been a few years since Slipknot released a new record, the band have recently announced that their first album since 2014’s .5: The Gray Chapter will be released on August 8th.

Having released their latest single – ‘All Out Life’ – back in 2018, fans of the group are undoubtedly hungry for more, and with a huge tour like this on the way, you can bet these will be leaving audiences more than satisfied.

Kicking off in October, this huge headline tour will see Metallica and Slipknot kick things off in Perth, before hitting up Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, before wrapping things up in Brisbane, undoubtedly blowing minds and melting faces along the way.

Tickets to these long-awaited shows go on sale from March 18th with pre-sales kicking off in the preceding days, so don’t miss your chance to see two of metal’s biggest names on the same bill.
