Metallica have been announced as this year’s official Record Store Day ambassadors, following in the footsteps of the likes of Jack White and Dave Grohl. The band have now unveiled a video explaining the importance of vinyl and Record Store Day.

As Rolling Stone reports, the clip sees all four members of the thrash mega-group explaining their history with the beloved format and the annual frenzy that’s been cited as single-handedly renewing interest in both vinyl and brick-and-mortar record stores.

“Metallica has been lifelong supporters of record stores and indie retail, because – well because we grew up with it and no one would play our stuff, so that’s where we would meet friends, meet fans, hang out at the record stores and get to find out what cool new music is out there,” James Hetfield explains in the video.

“Independent record stores are part of Metallica’s DNA,” adds Lars Ulrich. “They have been pivotal in shaping each one of us into the music fanatics we’ve all become. We could not be any prouder to be Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2016.”

As a tribute to the tragic Paris attacks, the band will be releasing a new live album on RSD, Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, Metallica! – Live at Le Bataclan. Paris, France – June 11th, 2003, with all proceeds going to Fondation de France’s Give For France charity.
