If you’ve been hanging out for more new music by iconic English hip-hop act The Streets, we’ve got good news, with Mike Skinner revealing a new record is on the way.

After forming back in the ’90s, The Streets burst into the mainstream back in 2002 with the release of their debut record, Original Pirate Material. Featuring Mike Skinner’s spoken-word delivery, and relatable, slice-of-life lyrics, the group went on to release four more albums before calling it quits in 2011.

However, 2017 saw the return of The Streets, with a handful of new singles being released over the last year, and some reunion shows going down in Europe. Now, the group’s leader has revealed that there’s plenty more music on the way.

Speaking to Q Magazine (via NME), Skinner explained that he’s got a new mixtape on the way, along with a film of some sorts.

“I’m going to be releasing more music as and when I feel inspired in the lead-up to the film,” Skinner explained.

“I’ve got a track that will be out by the time this runs, I think, Called ‘Call Me In The Morning’ with Chip and Grim Sickers, which is really good,” he continued. “And I’m planning a mixtape during 2019, as well as getting back into the swing of festivals.”

“Then I’m going to make my film, release my album and after that we’re going to buy the West End off Andrew Lloyd Webber.”

As NME noted, while ‘Call Me In The Morning’ is yet to be released, it’s given a release date of November 23rd on Amazon.

As for the new film, The Daily Mail revealed that it’s apparently inspired by ’90s teen dramas, and will be titled The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light, after his musical project of the same name.

“It’s a farce about guys and girls getting into trouble in a club,” he explained earlier this year. “The story isn’t clever, it’s all in the dialogue, and that’s what I love.”

“What was that teen show where everyone’s a philosopher? Dawson’s Creek – it’s a bit like that.”

While we wait for these new projects, we just hope that an Australian tour might be on the cards as well. As it stands, The Streets’ 2011 Aussie tour were some of the last shows played by the group during their original run, performing their final gig just two months after they left the country.

Whatever the case, it seems like we’ve only got a few days to wait before we hear a brand new single from The Streets, and then begin the agonising wait for the latest mixtape to drop.
