This weekends mixtape features a bunch of amazing homegrown acts including I, a Man, Little Scout, Saskwatch, Drunk Mums and some internationals including Dub Pistols and Dan Le Sac’s catching new track.

I, a Man – The Scenic Route

Sweet guitar melodies, quality vocals and a catchy chorus make this tune from I, a Man. With a voice like that, this track is a delight to listen to, sending listeners to a place of serenity and comfort. One for the chill out playlist.

Little Scout – Go Quietly

The soft, husky and high-pitched vocals in ‘Go Quietly’ are definitely the highlight of the track. With the fast beat that backs the melody, it’s hard to listen without tapping your feet away. It is amazing to see how a song can hold so much emotion through simple techniques of combining the right voice with the right music.

Saskwatch – Your Love

From the get-go, this track oozes cheery, upbeat vibes. Channelling a 60s soul genre, with the forceful horn melody that rolls the vocals along. After one play, the sound already lingers in your head, wanting to be repeated. This track brings up pictures of swing dance clubs, full of brass instruments – a great modern take on this style.

Drunk Mums – Rubbing Your Gums

Currently one of Melbourne’s good time buzz bands, this Drunk Mums track starts off  very simliar to Courtney Barnett’s ‘Lance Jr’, but then quickly takes its own shape into the bands trademark Ahh, Ahh’s and jangly 60’s rock guitars. Rubbing Your gums, drug reference? who cares, it’s a great catchy little rock n roll tune from one of our great local live acts. Band to keep an eye for sure.

Dub Pistols – Mucky Weekend

This track is an interesting mix of rap, backed by dance music that almost sounds jazzy at times. Maybe representing the lyrics which describe the odd combination of events that take place on this ‘mucky weekend’. A very creative way to re-tell a night of partying.

Dan Le Sac – Play Along

‘Play Along’ is a mellow track with enticing vocals, likely to make you unconsciously sway along to the relaxed rhythm. A little something to get you pumped up for a night out.
