It’s the summer of folk, shoegaze and great guitar tones. Stornoway are back with a new track from their forthcoming sophomore release, White Noise (Feat. Aluna George) have everybody online taking about their track ‘Disclosure’, the delightful Ainslie Willis has a new single, we were sent a new track from local newcomers Hollow Everdaze, Canadian’s The Besnard Lakes have given us a taste off a forthcoming record we’ve been introduced to Create/Control’s latest signing California Wives.

Stornoway – Knock Me On The Head

Taken from their forthcoming sophomore release Tales From Terra Firma, ‘Knock Me On The Head’ is the first taste of new music from Stornoway since their debut, Beachcomber’s Windowsill dropped back in 2010. The deceptively upbeat folk track is lyrically much darker than one would expect. “I’ve seen the ghost of my anathema upon my bed,” sings lead vocalist Brian Briggs on the expansive track. With a marked progression from their debut, you’ll have to wait until March to hear more of new Stornoway.

White Noise (Feat. Aluna George) – Disclosure

This collaboration has sent the internet into a spin in the past week with two of London’s most  raved about new acts teaming up for this club banger. Both acts have highly anticipated debuts set to drop in 2013, with ‘White Noise’ demonstrating the best of the next crop that will no doubt continue to emerge over the year. Disclosure, the brother duo, are set to release their first LP in March or April. However Alunageorge have more concrete details, with Body Music fixed for release in early June.

Ainslie Willis – Lemon Japan

Anislie Willis, has really come into her own over the last year with a more mature approach to songwriting and a more textural sound in the production as heard on last single ‘Stop Pulling The String’ and now her new single ‘Lemon Japan’. Ainslie’s beautifully controlled vocals are teamed with meandering keys and guitars and simple subtle drum beats, as well as a non conventional song structure, making her take on folk incredibly captivating. It feels like Ainslie is only moments away from selling out theatre shows all over Australia.

Hollow Everdaze – Selfish

With the requisite fuzzy guitar tone and a charming voice from the lead singer, this Melbourne four-piece are staying on trend with the current musical aesthetic . The curious thing though, is that unlike many slightly garagey bands garnering attention lately, Hollow Everdaze have been around for a good five years, proving this just happens to be the music the boys love playing. It’s a good thing too, cause we love listening.

The Besnard Lakes – People Of The Sticks

‘People Of The Sticks’ is the first taste from the new album from Montreal’s The Bersnard Lakes ‘Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO’, and husband and wife team Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, don’t disappoint with a traditionally lengthy single cleverly crafted with the simplicity of 90’s sounding production, super lush trademark shoegazed guitar sounds and floating washed out vocals. Keep an eye for the rest of the LP which is due to hit online in early April.

California Wives – Blood Red Youth

Lead singer Jayson Kramar said that before forming California Wives he felt like he’d been asleep for years, a sentiment easily heard in their music. This isn’t to say it’s tiresome. In fact, the exact opposite it true. ‘Blood Red Youth’, and the four piece’s other songs sounds like they’ve had time to be thought about; like the foursome let them marinate before going full throttle with their performance of them. This considered, but energetic indie track is a definite summer keeper.
