It’s midweek mixtape time again! Our feature track this week comes from the underground Melbourne buzz duo Cash For Gold with their new track ‘Cheerleaders’, if you haven’t heard it, listen now! Next the return of international artists Editors and Kelis, followed the latest single from elusive UK producer Twigs, before the local acts bring it home with new tunes from Tigertown, Fairchild, Dan Webb and Say Lou Lou featuring Chet Faker.

Cash For Gold – Cheerleaders

Underground Melbourne duo Cash For Gold have released their first single “Cheerleaders”, is a rocky mix of  an old school type brass band with punk vocals. With catchy “right, lets go!” lyrics accompanied with collective clapping, the punky brass number will have you knocking your head and swaying to the blusey trumpets all at the same time. Keep an eye out for more material from this thus far illusive duo.

Editors – Ton Of Love

The new single ‘A Ton Of Love’ is taken from Editors forthcoming album ‘The Weight Of Your Love’ due for a July release. The single is safe and the seems pretty straight up compared to past recordings. There is still a tinge of the old the Editors sound, the most prominent being Tom’s deep vocal, seems this new track has a bit more of a mainstream vibe….

Kelis – Jerk Ribs

The return of Kelis is well over due and more than welcome, especially as she is an artist that is forever reinventing herself successfully. With a real 80s vibe ‘Jerk Ribs’ has tinkering keys, a brass section and a great electronic drum beat driving throughout the whole track sitting just beneath Kelis’ smooth and subtle vocals. Chilled but groovy a track that is sure to still be heard on the dance floor .

Twigs – How’s That

After the release of their first EP in December of last year, the ever-elusive Twigs are back with another new single that’s much in the same vein as self titled debut. ‘How’s That’ sees the band’s  signature distorted percussive beats and eerily sweet female vocals make a staggeringly haunting return. There’s no doubt whatever the mysterious UK group release next will be equally well-received by it for its content, or its sense of wonder.

Tigertown – What You Came Here For

Taken from the five-piece’s upcoming EP, due out later this year, ‘What You Came Here For’ features an all sar cast in terms of production and it really shows. Recorded by Liam Judson (Cloud Control, Belles Will Ring) and mixed by Steven Schram (San Cisco, Little Red, Little Birdy), the new single has a sharper sound than anything we’ve heard from the Sydney band before. With an 80s synth sound and a decidedly Paul Simon-esque melody, the track blends new with old to great results.

Fairchild –  Burning Feet

Fairchild’s debut single is a catchy, toe-tapping piece of jungle pop. With a building beat, passionate vocals and even a whistling outro, it has all the ingredients for a fun, somewhat anachronistically summery tune.

Dan Webb – Broken

Melbourne singer-songwriter, Dan Webb’s new track ‘Broken’ is sweet and soft. The vocals are grounded and the piano melody flows along in an almost hypnotic fashion. This track is part of his ‘Twelve Months, Twelve Songs’ project, where Webb releases one song a month for free online. He has a voice that shifts from a jazz tone to a more indie one really easily, his music is indicative of someone who’s been around the block and has a firm grasp on their sound

Say Lou Lou – Fool Of Me Feat. Chet Faker

Don’t get us wrong, we’re huge fans of a little collaboration, we just don’t want that to be what the wonderful Chet Faker becomes known for. After his stellar appearance on Flume’s ‘Left Alone’ the bearded Melbourne-ite proved he’s not just a one man show. This appearance on the Stockholm/ Sydney based all-girl duo Say Lou Lou’s track proves to be another great example of Mr. Faker’s beautifully emotive voice, we just wish there was more of it!
