It’s time to get familiar with Synth Babe Records, the killer new collective spearheaded by electronic noodling chanteuse Ninoosh (aka Anya Trybala) and aimed at championing women who make music with synths and electronic means.
Trybala explains the catalyst for the collective “the electronic music industry is incredibly male dominated, so we aim to promote the pioneers and give a platform for emerging electronic artists. Artists who currently feature on the label include The Fleurs, Tarsier and others as the label grows.”

Honor Eastly – You Had It All
Honor Eastly and I met a few years ago working on the most random project called the Pop-up Pirate Radio – a shipping container converted into a tall radio station…and a total fire hazard! We reconnected when we went through some tough mental health issues and general shit around the same time and started playing a few shows together last year. Her music, writing and general art and projects always take my breath away…and her use of the TC-Helicon is pretty darn special – this track will grab you by the throat.
Sophia Sin – Oh Darling
I’m loving this slinky track by producer and DJ, Sophia Sin – inspired by a mutual hero, Nicolas Jaar.
Alice Ivy – Charlie
Maddy Mac from PBS 106.7 put me on to Alice Ivy – with her mush of magic samples and delicious sounds. It reminds me a bit of The Avalanches, who I adore.
Rebekah Davis – Anxiety

This track has been on repeat lately. I met Jane at the Electronic Music Conference (EMC) last year and I am loving her project Kids At Midnight. If you’re in Melbourne, get down to her weekly night I WANT TO BE ADORED for good doses of nostalgia and quality tunes.
Buoy – Don’t Want To See You
Lovely Buoy from Sydney has a special sound and stage presence. Got to see her live last year and she was really charming to watch. This track has soft little glitches and unexpected caveats.
OK Sure X Ninoosh ‘Palms’ remix
First Synth Babe release.
A collaboration with the downtempo queen making all kinds of space jams, she takes my track ‘Palms’ and makes it into a deep and driving track with really beautiful additions, like a sitar. Her remix for Hermitude won the Triple J Unearthed competition and it’s a doozy.
