Sydney’s colourful Modular Records head honcho Steve ‘Pav’ Pavlovic has been selected as the curator of Sydney’s Vivid Live winter music festival. He’s got some pretty big shoes to fill – previous people to have held the position include Brian Eno for the inaugural event last year, and Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson for this year’s event.

Pav has had his ups and downs with festivals – his 1996 Summersault Festival up in competition with the Big Day Out sent him bankrupt. On the upside, 2007’s Daft Punk tour was considered a huge success, as have been many Modular tours since he set up the label in 1998.

Modular has brought the world Aussie artists such as Tame Impala, The Presets, Wolfmother, Cut Copy, as well as signing overseas artists such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Pav says of the appointment ““It’s like I’ve been asked to prepare a 10 course degustation menu of music and art for what is clearly a Michelin starred restaurant.”
