They may be an English band playing folk rock music which would normally never get much of a profile in Australia, but our country loves Mumford & Sons! They topped the Triple J Hottest 100 last year (with the station being left red-faced when the result were leaked) and were superstars in Australia before the rest of the world caught on. Hence we’re excited to find out that they’re finally getting down to work on a new album. They’re heading back in to the studio with producer Marcus Dravs who steered their 2009 debut Sigh No More.
According to keys player Ben Lovett: “We want to get the second album recorded this year, and we’re hoping to have gigged the record in before going to the studio.” He reckons that ‘Lover Of The Light’, which the band have been busting out live on recent tours, “should go all the way through to the next record. Ultimately we’re trying to write better and better songs, and songs that are truer to ourselves. And if we end up writing 10 to 15 songs better than that one, it will just have to sit on the B-side of the tape somewhere” he concludes.
