A music store in the US has attracted a high level of criticism after posting a sign on its door advising Donald Trump supporters to shop elsewhere.

It’s no secret that US President Donald Trump is a rather divisive figure around the world. While some musicians have hit back at the politician for using their music without permission, others, such as Pearl Jam, have used his likeness on controversial tour posters.

Other musicians still have completely slammed the controversial world leader, including the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl who explained that he is “ashamed of our president”, while noting that Trump “seems like a massive jerk”.

However, a music store in the US state of Ohio has now come under fire for posting a message on its door turning away supporters of Donald Trump.

As Cleveland19 reports, Joe’s Music in Willoughby, Ohio shared a since-deleted post on Facebook earlier this week criticising his clientele who support Donald Trump.

“Dear Trump sympathizers,” the sign begins. “I am truly sorry, however I feel unclean and dirty accepting money from you. Please, politely shop somewhere else.”

“Sorry, I would rather starve and close the store than participate in wrong-doing. Many blessings to you. I hope you understand.”

Of course, while backlash was swift, the store’s titular owner took to Facebook later to clarify his position somewhat.

“Let me be very clear this is not a ban,” Joe explained. “I am asking people to make a choice. There is a difference between asking and telling. I am not refusing service to anyone.”

Speaking to The Hill earlier today, Joe explained that he was somewhat surprised by the amount of harsh words, and even threats, that resulted from his sign.

“I did not do this for attention,” Joe explained. “I have posted things before about President Trump, so I didn’t expect this response.”

Surprisingly, other music stores have also been experiencing the backlash, with a similarly-named store in the state of Michigan taking to Facebook to denounce the other’s actions.

“Recently a store with the same name as ours posted on their door that they did not want any business from supporters of President Trump. It was not us that made that declaration,” wrote the seperate Joe’s Music on social media.

“I Support President Trump as he is the duly elected President of the United States,” they continued. “I have also supported past Presidents many I didn’t vote for.”

“Petty distasteful political actions have no place in a business where our focus is to help people make music which brings joy to the players and listeners alike.”
