Bruno Mars is reportedly on Netflix’s most-wanted list right now, with the streaming giant trying sign him on to portray late rock icon Prince in an upcoming biopic.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen a number of high-profile biopics hit the big screen. From the controversial Straight Outta Compton, to the upcoming Bohemian Rhapsody, there’s something out there for everyone. Now, it appears that the world of funk-rock is set to get a look-in, with Netflix reportedly seeking out Bruno Mars to star in a new film focused on Prince.

Back in early 2016, we heard the tragic news that Prince had passed away at the age of 57. In the following months and years, we’ve seen a number of tributes to the late icon, most recently with Metallica covering ‘When Doves Cry’ last week.

However, the 2017 Grammy Awards saw a rather special tribute to Prince, with noted fan Bruno Mars performing a rendition of ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ in honour of his idol.

Now, as The Mirror reports, Netflix apparently has Bruno Mars in their sights to appear in an upcoming film about Prince’s life and legacy.

“It will probably be the most nerve-racking move of his career if it happens,” a source from the streaming service revealed. “Prince was one of his idols so to take on a hefty role like that especially as a debut acting move would be full on.”

“The offer has come out of the blue,” they continued. “He’s at the top of Netflix wish list so they are hoping he will come on board.”

“Bruno used to love acting when he was younger but it’s not an avenue he’s explored.”

Of course, if you’re doubting Bruno Mars’ chops as an actor, you might need to remember that’s exactly how he got his start in the entertainment world.

While his first big role may have been with voice work on Rio 2 in 2014, it was 1992’a Honeymoon In Vegas that saw Bruno Mars appear as an Elvis impersonator at the age of seven.

While there’s no word yet as to when production on this Prince biopic might get underway, we’re pretty certain that Bruno Mars is the man for the job, and we hope that he decides to sign on for the lead role.
