It’s been eight long, long years without any way to access four EP’s worth of exclusive vinyl-only Neutral Milk Hotel music. But now, thank the Aeroplane over the sea, the band have put up the EP’s on their website, with a pay as you wish option beneath them.

It’s been many, many years since Neutral Milk Hotel has released music, which probably lends itself to the band’s incredible popularity. All we want is more Neutral Milk, the fans are, dare I say it, thirsty for it. But alas, new music may never be on the horizon, although fans can continue to speculate.

And fans do definitely speculate a lot about the band. One of the greatest music-related conspiracy theories is that Jeff Mangum invented a time machine, married Anne Frank and is harbouring her identity in secret, dedicating his music to her. No seriously, check it out for yourself HERE.

Technically, we were blessed with new music in 2011, when the band released a collection of songs recorded between 1992 and 1995 called Ferris Wheel on Fire, however if you wanted to get your hands on those songs you would need incredibly fast running shoes and a reliable record store near you, as the EP was made vinyl-exclusive.

Just now though, Ferris Wheel on Fire has become digitally available, alongside much earlier vinyl-exclusive hidden gems, Everything Is, Little Birds and You’ve Passed. The four EP’s are now available on the Neutral Milk Hotel website, after eight long years of waiting around pressing replay on In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.

Now, the albums are pay as you wish, which means technically yes, they are all free, but of course, you can pay if you’re feeling generous enough. You probably won’t, but the option is definitely there.

For the rest of the week, we’ll be listening to these rare gems and crying over how much we’ve missed the opportunity to hear them earlier.
