The music-minded brains behind the popular A Day On The Green concert series are launching a brand new live music spin-off, named Rolling Green, locking in The Black Keys as the first artists to headline the inaugural event.

Described as “the younger brother” to A Day On The Green by promoters Roundhouse Entertainment, Rolling Green will offer large-scale outdoor concerts at established regional winery venues, showcasing “three to four artists” per event.

“A Day On The Green has found its place but there is no reason younger audiences should not see bands they want to see in the beautiful environments that have made A Day On The Green such an established event for an older crowd,” Roundhouse Entertainment’s Michael Newton says in a statement. “The Black Keys is the perfect band to launch Rolling Green.”

As revealed during the band’s Australian Tour announcement earlier this afternoon, The Black Keys will help launch the first two Rolling Green 2014 dates next April (in the country to headline Bluesfest 2015), But what wasn’t revealed was the impressive support lineup joining the Grammy-winning blues rock duo.

Veteran Aussie trio Spiderbait (currently on a sold out national tour), the mighty Band Of Skulls (also playing Bluesfest), and Adelaide rock knockabouts and rising ones-to-watch for 2014 Bad//Dreems will all open for The Black Keys at Rolling Green at Rochford Wines in Yarra Valley on Sunday 5th April and Bimbadgen Winery in the NSW’s Hunter Valley on Saturday 11th April.

Like its ‘older brother’, Rolling Green will be a fully licensed event (with strictly no BYO alcohol), while offering a large range of great culinary delights on site. You could always bring your own picnic spread of sangers and chilled goods in cooler bags, but just make sure you leave the eskies and chairs at home – neither are permitted.

Once described asthe Big Day Out for grown-ups”, A Day On The Green has provided a festival-sized alternative to older music fans, hosting the likes of The Beach Boys, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Costello, and more recently Hunters & Collectors and Bernard Fanning.

Before rolling out the green carpet for The Black Keys and their new live music event, A Day On The Green has a selection of heritage tours prepped for the summer and beyond.

Powerhouse vocalist Jimmy Barnes will embark on a 30th Anniversary tour in November and December with The Living End and an all-star roster of support acts through regional wineries and venues. Before that, November’s ‘Classic Hits All Day’ shows will gather John Paul Young, Wendy Matthews, Eurogliders, 1927, Dragon, Pseudo Echo, Rose Tattoo, GANGgajan, Mi-Sex, members of Wa Wa Nee and Choirboys, plus many more, to deliver the nostalgic hits.

Looking into next year, Paul Simon & Sting’s co-headline Australian Tour will visit Geelong and Perth dates presented by Day On The Green while blockbuster Swedes Roxette will deliver a pair of winery shows in February 2015, with special guests Eurogliders, Dragon, and Boom Crash Opera.
