Kevin Parker has offered an update on the eagerly-anticipated Tame Impala album. In a feature published in The Sunday Times, Parker has delved into the band’s fourth record, their career-defining Coachella headlining slot and channelling his inner Lady Gaga.

There has been speculation that the psych-legends may drop their record in April, just before their appearance at Coachella. Though when asked whether the Coachella performance would impact the release of the record, Parker explained that he feels the band are not working to any deadline, sharing:

“I like to think that the album is its own thing.

I wouldn’t want in 20 years to be listening to an album I made now and think that I finished it for any deadline or any particular reason. It was finished because it was finished.”

Back in July, Kevin Parker relayed his recording plans in conversation with Beats 1’s Matt Wilkinson, confessing that he hoped that Tame Impala would have a new record out by mid-2019, sharing that he would “be really disappointed if we didn’t have something out by then.”

Parker referenced his prior collaborator Lady Gaga as a source of inspiration,  sharing “Anticipation is good… I want to be the kind of artist that feels empowered by people waiting to hear what I’ve got. That’s the Gaga in me speaking.”

Gaga and Parker worked together on her 2016 track ‘Perfect Illusion’.

Parker also revealed that he forgot to tell his bandmates about their headlining Coachella spot. Admitting that he only let them know about the gig the day that the lineup was announced,

“They would’ve woken up, seen the poster and thought it was a joke. If they read this interview, they’ll know I forgot. We’re not much of a celebratory gang.”

I mean, who hasn’t forgotten to inform their peers that they’re headling a 250,000 person festival. It’s a daily mishap.
