Humour is often to best thing to defuse an argument, but we have to wonder if this will go down well with the thousands of disgruntled Detroit football fans who were outraged last month when Nickelback were booked as the half-time entertainment to their local teams Thanksgiving day match.
A petition on the internet that garnered over 50,000 signatures called for organisers to replace Canada’s worst export with any number of the high-profile music acts that have come out of the city of motors.
“This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game,” read the petition. “At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs. The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime.”
One fan even went as far to say he’d “rather drink bleach than listen to Nickelback and have them associated with Detroit.”
But organisers have not been deterred and despite community disapproval have decided to go ahead with the booking with the game due to be played this week. Now Nickelback have decided to throw their hat into the ring in an attempt to win over the people of Detroit, using Will Ferrel’s Funny Or Die website to record a skit they hope will defuse the situation.
In the video, Nickelback are seen in their record companies office brainstorming ideas that will make them more appealing to the people of Detroit. You can watch the video below. What do you think, is this video funny? Or does it just make the whole affair all the more sad?
