Rock stars are known to put their foot in it from time to time; after all they hardly live what anyone could call a ‘normal life’. But even the Gallagher brothers would be blushing at recent comments made by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine.
Speaking to LA Weekly, the frontman started talking about the importance of family values – his own parents divorced when he was 7 and he spent most of his childhood bouncing around various homes including living with his sisters and brothers-in-law.
“I really think that, if the parents aren’t going to stick together, they shouldn’t make that kind of commitment to life,” the 50-year-old singer said.
He then continued, “I watch some of these shows from over in Africa, and you’ve got starving women with six kids. Well, how about, you know, put a plug in it? It’s like, you shouldn’t be having children if you can’t feed them.”
His comments seem pretty rich to us given his endorsement last week of Republican Rick Santorum who is currently seeking the nomination from his party to run for President and is staunchly religious – his official platform being ‘No abortion, no birth control, no sex’.
You can hardly complain about poor people procreating and then endorse a candidate who wants to take away contraception.
But Mustaine is unrepentant, repeating his comments earlier in the week by saying “I wouldn’t vote for Obama. I didn’t vote for him last time, thank God, so I have no responsibility for this disaster that’s happening to our country. And watching the primaries with the Republicans, I think probably the classiest guy out of all of them is Rick Santorum.”
We think it’s maybe time that Mustaine ‘puts a plug in it’.
