If you were the Scissor Sisters, who would be the best person to pitch your latest collection of disco-infused pop?
Why, the frontman for desert rockers Queens of the Stone Age of course.
In a brilliantly humorous bit of marketing, Joshua Homme has lent his services to promote the ‘benefits’ of the new Scissor Sisters record, Magic Hour, on a spoof infomercial flogging the album.
Presented as an eighties-pitched advert, the clip contains Homme – giving it his best used car salesman – selling the electro-glamsters fourth record in a suitably dank bar with equally lo-fi production values.
With tongue firmly planted in cheek, Homme spouts some wonderfully cheesy diatribe. Praising Magic Hour as a collection of “touching and emotional ballads guaranteed to get you and your partner to fall in love again… over again.” Before assuring, “you’ll be happy to know Magic Hour can be yours for only three-and-a-half payments of 19.99… point 9″
This isn’t the first time the Scissor Sisters have attempted to court Homme’s services, with previous reports they were attempting to lure the QOTSA frontman into a collaboration. There’s no confirmation that he’ll appear on the album musically, but their fourth studio album is set to feature a number of guest spots and collobarations, including the likes of N*E*R*D*’s Pharrell Williams, Brooklyn femcee Azealia Banks and Diplo. The lead single ‘Only The Horses’ also features a co-production with Calvin Harris.
Magic Hour drops next week on May 28; and Josh Homme is behind it all the way – or as his ad puts it: “In fact, I’m so confident…”
