Mitch Lucker, the heavily tattooed, powerful-lunged frontman for American extreme metal band Suicide Silence, has died aged 28 after sustaining fatal injuries from a motorcycle accident in his home of California on Wednesday evening.

Lucker was the lead vocalist and one of the founding members of Suicide Silence, who were last in Australia for a September national tour in 2011 promoted by Soundwave Touring. 2009 saw them named best new talent at Revolver magazine’s annual Golden Gods Awards along with the release of their sophomore album, No Time To Bleed. Their latest record, last year’s The Black Crown, was the band’s highest charting album, peaking at its debut position of #28 on the Billboard Top 200,

Lucker passed away early morning of November 2nd after being involved in a motorcycle crash in Huntington Beach, California. He was pronounced dead at 6:17 a.m. Thursday at UCI Medical Center in Orange County.

According to The Vancouver Sun,the frontman passed away only hours after tweeting a photo of himself done up for Halloweenwith the now rather eerie tagline of “the dead are living.”

There’s no easy way to say this. Mitch passed away earlier this morning from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. This is completely devastating to all of us and we offer our deepest condolences to his family. He will be forever in our hearts. R.I.P. Mitchell Adam Lucker – We Love You, Brother.

Nuclear Blast, Suicide Silence’s record label, also issued a statement: “Nuclear Blast would like to offer our condolences to his family, friends, band members and fans worldwide who are affected by this loss. He left us doing what he loved to do most… and will be sorely missed.” The band are holding a candlelight vigil for their fallen frontman in Huntington Beach tonight.
