Perth’s leading purveyors of psychelicious indie rock, Tame Impala, are currently wowing the sun-blazed crowds of Parklife 2012 around the nation.
While the general public have already had a taste of the band’s forthcoming, highly anticipated sophomore album in the form of barrelling lead single ‘Elephant’, and the slice of Beatles-influenced rock that was ‘Apocalypse Dreams‘; Parklife-goers are no doubt getting lost in a blissed-out set packed with new material.
But now there’s no need to get jealous as the band’s label, Modular, have today released a full stream of Tame Impala’s new album (which we gave the full Tone Deaf verdict here) ahead of its October 5th release.
Coinciding with the first full listen of the band’s second expedition of kaleidoscopic rock and melodies that will “lazer-beam you in the face,” are the full details of a deluxe edition of the album; so once you’ve done the whole ‘try before you buy’, you can start saving your biscuits for Modular’s ace collector’s edition of Lonerism.
While they lament that “we couldn’t include a lock of Kev[in Parker]’s hair,” the deluxe edition still contains some impressive extras, including the album on gatefold double-coloured vinyl (on juicy turquoise), exclusive to this Deluxe Edition. Along with a digipak copy of the CD, along with an extra 7” single featuring previously unreleased tune ‘Beverly Laurel’.
Non-musical extras include a double-sided poster, featuring the Lonerism artwork and a neat little scrawled message from the band and three pin-button badges, all packaged together in a custom designed box. Mint.
You can scope the Lonerism Deluxe Edition and its contents below, and pre-orders are available now from Modular records.

In related news, along with Pond, there’s now a second side-project to sample from Tame Impala’s drummer, Jay Watson in GUM and their new track, ‘Delorean Highway’.
While Pond bassist Joe Ryan recently revealed in an interview with Tone Deaf, that a second Pond record was also in the can, and due for release early next year some time (presumably after Tame Impala duties have wound down).
“We went to [Wasteland Studios] in Fremantle owned by the guys from Eskimo Joe and we did it in three nights,” explains Ryan. “We think it’s going to have eight tracks in the end” with the tentative title of Hobo Rocket. “We’ve got this album finished, the next album written and ready to rock in the studio, and we’re just going to keep on trucking.”
Ryan describes Hobo Rocket as being “a pretty sonic album with a lot of feedback and crazy shit,” and we can expect many tracks to be “heavier; more like Earth or one of those kinds of bands.”
