The Hollywood Walk Of Fame is as famous the movie stars who’s names grace the pavements of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine St in Los Angeles, USA. Started in 1960, the walk has become a huge tourist attraction and it is estimated over 10 million visit the attraction each year.
Eager to get in on the action, Brisbane City Council back in 2008 officially unveiled the Brisbane rock n roll Walk Of Fame honouring Queensland’s finest and most acomplished musicians.
Ten plaques were cemented to honour local musicians who had made an impact on the national and international stage, including Savage Garden, Powderfinger, the Bee Gees, Keith Urban and The Go Betweens.
Now four years later, QMusic, in partnership with Brisbane City Council, have announced a new crop of artists set to be immortalised on the streets of Fortitude Valley during a very special event on Sunday 28 October 2012, as part of Valley Fiesta 2012.
In choosing the new additions to the Walk of Fame, the council and Q Music decided to pay homage to the Song of the Year and Published Song of the Year winners from the last 6 years.
The Boat People, Emma Louise, The Gin Club, Timothy Carroll, Tim Steward, Hungry Kids of Hungary, Bernard Fanning, Robert Forster, David McCormack, The Grates and Troy Cassar-Daley will join the history books, when their star is cemented into the Brunswick Street Mall ‘Walk of Fame’ as a permanent recognition of their ability, talent, hard work and dedication to music.
“QMusic is delighted to have this opportunity to honour Queensland Music Award winners. The QMAs have provided a platform for Queensland artists to be recognised nationally and abroad. To have these artists recognised in the Brunswick Street Mall ‘Walk of Fame’ is a great thrill for our organisation,” said Denise Foley, QMusic Executive Officer.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk added that the Valley Fiesta was the perfect occasion to celebrate the contribution music artists have made to the industry.
“Music plays a huge part in enhancing the creativity and vibrancy of our city and I congratulate these artists for securing a place in Brunswick Street Mall’s Walk of Fame for their achievements,” Cr Quirk said.
“Since the early 1990’s, Fortitude Valley has been the hub of music and live entertainment in Brisbane, and this year’s Valley Fiesta will see thousands gather to celebrate the area’s rich musical scene with a smorgasbord of free live acts.”
“With three outdoor stages showcasing a wealth of international and home grown talent, this year’s festival will be bigger and better than ever before.”
Celebrations start at midday on October 28 with performances on the Brunswick Street Mall Stage from The Boat People, Emma Louise, The Gin Club, Hungry Kids of Hungary, Timothy Carroll and Tim Steward as well as the unveiling of the plaques.
