After recently announcing her involvement in the upcoming Australian all-star country supergroup The Hillbilly Killers, well known singer-songwriter Catherine Britt has rounded up seven nominations for this year’s Country Music Awards Australia; including Best Female Artist, Single, Album, Videoclip – as well as Heritage and APRA Song Of The Year and Best Vocal Collaboration with Tim Rogers on ‘Troubled Man’.
Britt recently supported Rogers on his solo tour, and the pair are also part of The Hillbilly Killers line-up, alongside beloved Australian musicians Bill Chambers, Shane O’Mara, James Gillard and Michael Muchow, and the new Aussie supergroup already have their debut gig, at next year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival, locked in.
Britt’s seven nods follows the success of her latest album Always Never Enough, which has earned some well deserved respect in her native Australia after moving to the U.S in 2004 to follow her music career and carving a place on the US Billboard charts. Britt has since released four full length studio albums, all of which charted very comfortably on the Australian Country ARIA charts.
Now in it’s 41st year, the CMAA is set to embark on new ground with artists Kasey Chambers, John Williamson, The Big Red and Adam & Eve all receiving multiple nominations. Country music event Troy Cassar-Daley is also bound to share the spotlight with seven nominations himself.
This year’s event is set to embrace change with new found artists and the surprise resignation of CMAA board chairman Joan Doulas earlier this month.
The CMAA announced a replacement with Jeff Chandler taking over her position, Doulas had this to say in a statement released last month on their website: “The appointment of Jeff Chandler is very exciting for the Industry as Jeff has had many years experience in major industry roles. His knowledge is an asset to the Association and he will lead the Board very capably.”
With new members and an impressive up and coming generation of Australian country musicians all getting nods, this year’s Country Music Australia Awards are set to mark new territory and value to the country’s best in their field, as they take place on Saturday, 26th January, 2013 at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment & Conference Centre.
