Just in time for Valentine’s Day, music streaming service Spotify has revealed Australia’s most popular love song, one that will no doubt be the soundtrack to many romantic rose baths across the country tonight. If you still need to compile a playlist for the most loved-up day of the year, grab a pen and get ready to take some notes.

As reported by Life Hacker, the music streaming service analysed the data of its millions of users to determine the coveted title of the country’s favourite love song goes to the Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross duet ‘Endless Love’, which was found to be the most streamed song of all love song playlists on Spotify. Disappointing for rock fans (or fans of any other genre for that matter), but if you’re going to pick a day to play some sappy pop music…

According to the streaming figures, Michael Jackson’s ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’ came in at second place.

Rounding out the lovey-dovey top 10 were ‘Right Here Waiting’ by Richard Marx, ‘When You Say Nothing At All’ by Ronan Keating, ‘Un-break My Heart’ by Toni Braxton, ‘You’re Beautiful’ by James Blunt, ‘Come Away With Me’ by Norah Jones, ‘Your Song’ by Elton John, ‘How Am I Supposed To Live Without You’ by Michael Bolton and ‘Careless Whisper’ by George Michael.

Apparently Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, the site’s overall most popular song for 2012, isn’t quite appropriate for a romantic Valentine’s Day.

Spotify has also released a playlist entitled ‘101 Love Songs for Valentines Day’, featuring some of the greatest love songs over the last 100 years from Beyoncé to INXS to Adele, because sometimes the best way to celebrate your passions is by belting out ‘Someone Like You’, alone in bed with a tub of neapolitan ice-cream.Apparently Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ isn’t quite appropriate for a romantic Valentine’s Day.

Also coinciding with Valentine’s Day, Spotify has released ‘Spotify Playlist Poetry’; a perfect last-minute gift for those who need a bit of creative inspiration.

“Users can search for song titles from Spotify’s catalogue of over 20million+ songs, which they can then piece together to create their own romantic verses. Once they’ve created their poem, users can then share it as a Spotify playlist, sending it to their significant other for free,” a press release from the streaming service explains.

It’s not the first time Spotify have analysed user data, having recently used the listening habits across their site as a guide to successfully predict Gotye’s clean-up at the Grammys. The company also researched Australian listeners’ streaming data to reveal the nation’s most streamed artists of 2012, with Maroon 5 taking the top spot.

If you still need more inspiration your Valentine’s Day, check out Spotify’s playlists for ‘Songs That Are Considered Better Than Sex’, ‘Top Tracks For A Romantic Dinner’, ‘Best Tracks For A Flirt On The Dancefloor’ and, cutting to the chase, ‘Best Tracks To Get In The Mood’.

Or, if all else fails, just play Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get In On’ for fail-proof seduction.
