Melbourne post-hardcore band House Vs Hurricane have made a shock announcement that they’re splitting up after seven years and three records.

Representatives of the band sent around a press release this afternoon with a statement from the band, who have decided “it’s time for us to move on and call it day.”

“The five if us could have never imagined the amount of support we have received since our beginnings from our fans, friends, families, past members and and the amazing team that has been behind us the entire way,” read the statement from the band.”

“We see this as an exciting step more than anything else, of course it’s sad but we have been given the opportunity to travel the world, record music, meet so many amazing people and share what we do with anyone who will listen, and for that we are so so grateful and humbled.”

“We have an Australian tour coming up later this month with I Killed The Prom Queen and Buried In Verona, as well as River Sessions festival in Mackay. These will be our last shows for the moment, but we may look to do something later on as a final farewell.”

“Of course we will all continue to play music in some capacity so keep an eye out for that in the future but for now it is goodbye.”

It’s not all bad news for fans of the group though. As a parting gift the band have decided to put up a couple of tracks for free that are b-sides from their latest album Crooked Teeth

They’ve also left the door open for a few more farewell shows and were quick to emphasise that each of the members would continue to play music. “Of course we will all continue to play music in some capacity so keep an eye out for that in the future but for now it is goodbye.”

House Vs Hurricane’s third and final album Crooked Teeth, solidified their place in Australian Heavy Music history, gaining significant Triple J airplay, ARIA and AIR award nominations and debuted Top 20 on the ARIA Charts in 2012.

It also catapulted them to play Main Stage at Big Day Out 2013, as well as slots on Pyramid Rock and River Sessions festivals. This year, they already completed two European tours, with the recently completed Slam Dunk Festival in the UK capping off their run in the territory.

House Vs Hurricane will tour nationally on the East Coast Rampage tour with label-mates I Killed The Prom Queen and Buried In Verona from June 20th to June 28th, winding up at River Sessions which will be their last show for the moment.

Representatives say there may be some extra shows towards the end of the year as a final goodbye to fans.
