Face The Music, Melbourne’s own annual contemporary music industry conference, has revealed the second round of speakers fort this year’s edition of the summit.
Leading the pack of new Face The Music speakers is the founder and Chairman of the Mushroom Group, Michael Gudinski, along with his son and newly appointed Executive Director, Matt Gudinski, who was anointed with his new position as part of Mushroom’s 40th Anniversary celebrations earlier this year.
The father-son team will be grace the stage together at Face The Music this November for an in-depth interview discussing the company’s enormous success over four decades, including its recent rebranding and restructuring as well as the state of the music industry at home and abroad. The panel will offer a rare insight into the working mind and dynamics of the Gudinskis, who were both recently named at the head of a joint venture to present Future Music Festival 2014 and the underage ‘sister event’ Good Life 2014, following the financial collapse of three companies associated with Future Entertainment Pty Ltd.
The second round of speakers to the Face The Music 2013 lineup includes VICE Music General Manager Jamie Farkas. Direct from Brooklyn, New York, Farkas will discuss the company’s success since he helped launch the VICE records label back in 2003, and the GM has been part of the multi-faceted music company’s expansion as a label and into supervision, endorsement, bookings, and sponsorship, for artists such as The Streets, Snoop Lion, and Death From Above 1979.
Other additions to the Face The Music 2013 program include popular musician Renee Geyer, the addition of playwright, musician and multimedia artist Sonny Smith of Sonny and the Sunsets, as well as musician Tim Shiel (Faux Pas, Gotye, Time Shield), and Sydney indie artist and sometimes Triple J associate, Brendan MacLean.
This year’s Face The Music will also include the ‘Discovery’ program, looking at how streaming services connects music-makers and their industry all around the globe through the world of digital. Described as ‘part presentation, part Q&A’ the Discovery session will be presented by Spotify’s Rene Chambers and will cover hot topics such as marketing, publicity, label interaction, and artist payment (made a high profile concern after Thom York & Nigel Godrich’s notable protest of the streaming service).
The new Face The Music 2013 program additions join the already announced speakers, including ARIA CEO Dan Rosen, Gotye and Birds Of Tokyo manager John Watson, and Universal’s Peter Karpin. Tickets for the non-profit conference are on sale at www.FaceTheMusic.org.au
