What do Kylie Minogue, Melbourne rockers Kingswood, and ARIA-topping hip hop crew Bliss N Eso have in common?

They’ve all performed for Aussie troops stationed overseas.

Following on from scoring a career-beating #1 for their latest album Circus In The Sky and lending the likeness and music in promoting the AFL Grand Final, Bliss N Eso have done another service for their country in a “top secret” tour to perform for Australian troops stationed overseas.

“So for the last week or so we have been on a top secret mission in the Middle East, and we can now reveal we have been in Afghanistan doing a bunch of shows for our troops!” pronounced Bliss N Eso in a Facebook post to their fans.

The group spent 10 days on the latest Forces Entertainment tour for the Australian troops stationed at military outposts in the Middle East regions of Tarin Kowt, Kandhar, and Kabul, as The Daily Telegraph points out.

“We don’t support war, but we are here to spread peace, love, unity and positive vibes to the guys and girls of the ADF who are putting their life on the line every single day,” write the trio – MC Bliss (Jonathan Notley), MC Eso (Max MacKinnon), and DJ Izm (Tarik Ejjamai). “To be able to play shows for these guys and give them some positivity in a tough situation is something we could not pass up,” noted the group in a statement to The Daily Telegraph.

Since their musical tour of duty, Bliss N Eso have released a photo gallery of their time in Afghanistan. “This was an amazing show! These guys didn’t get paid to come here, they came here purely to support us,” wrote one commenter on the images, adding: “Thank you Bliss N Eso so much for all your support, it’s things like this that really lift the spirits of the troops over here!”

Following their shows for the Australian Defence Force, the hip hop group are now touring Canada following an appearance at the Rifflandia Music Festival over the weekend.

The hip hop crew then check in for a couple of North American shows in early October before returning home to perform at Newcastle’s Fat As Butter festival, alongside a lineup featuring Circus In The Sky collaborators Bluejuice, Gym Class Heroes, The Rubens, Matt Corby, Boy & Bear, and more.

Fat As Butter has drawn some controversy this year over its camping grounds, which has drawn the ire of local residents concerned over the conduct of festival-goers, but perhaps more-so over the festival’s promoters, Mothership Music, going into voluntary liquidation following losing a crucial court case over the 2011 Fat As Butter no-show from Flo Rida – leading to organisers planning a ritual burning of a Flo Rida effigy at the event, until “the powers that be” shut down the concept.
