Tickets to Lana Del Rey’s Splendour In The Grass 2012 sideshows have unsurprisingly sold out, and to keep up with demand promoter Secret Sounds have announced two more dates in Melbourne and Sydney.

The new dates were announced on Facebook this afternoon, with the new show in Melbourne scheduled for Tuesday 24th July at the Palace Theatre, and Friday 27th July at Enmore Theatre in Sydney.

On January 31st, 2012 Del Rey released the darkly glamorous “Born To Die”. The album debuted at #1 on iTunes in eighteen countries and has since totaled well over a million in sales worldwide.

After having only debuted her home made clip for the single ‘Video Games’ the previous June Del Rey’s year was a tornado of activity, touring and media commitments around the globe forcing the newly famous glamour girl to postpone her first Australian tour.

With YouTube views of ‘Video Games’ climbing over the 32 million mark, Lana Del Rey might be mistaken as an overnight sensation. However, Del Rey, nee Lizzy Grant, started her musical journey after moving to NYC as a teenage university student.

The haunting lyrics and melody of ‘Video Games’ proved to be an international smash hit, and propelled the 25-year-old singer into the spotlight – quicker than the team around her had hoped.

Pressured to back up the runaway success of ‘Video Games’ that went viral overnight, Interscope rushed out the singer’s debut album and thrust her onto television screens across the world with her performance on Saturday Night Live, a train wreck that has threatened to derail her career ever since.

The fall out following that infamous performance was one of the reasons Del Rey’s team promptly cancelled all her North American tour dates, and shelved plans for a promo tour here in Australia.

Of course it didn’t stop her most die-hard fans, who helped propel the singer who was unknown just a few months prior to the top of the charts in over 11 countries on iTunes, including here in Australia.

Her debut, Born To Die, has shipped more than 70,000 copies here in Australia since it was released.
