The inaugural Stone Music Festival kicks off in just over a month, with an impressive lineup of local and international acts hitting Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on April 20th and 21st, including the return of arena rock veterans Van Halen to Australia for the first time in more than 20 years, co-headlining with esteemed singer-songwriter Billy Joel.
The Australian list of bands is just as impressive, featuring the likes of Icehouse, The Living End, the newly reformed Superjesus, as well as the power-lunged Jimmy Barnes and fellow Cold Chisel cohort Ian Moss also on the festival bill.
Now the new entrant to the music festival market has finalised its lineup as well as offered the playing times for its single-stage, two-day extravaganza, which sees Van Halen headlining the Saturday 20th April half of the event, warmed up by Jimmy Barnes, and Kings of Chaos – a heavy rock supergroup that includes members of Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, Def Leppard, Skid Row and Deep Purple.
Meanwhile the Sunday leg is topped by Billy Joel and preceded by Icehouse, Aussie pop titan Guy Seabastian, USA’s Lifehouse, and a trio of Aussie belters in Diesel, Mark Seymour, and Shannon Noll as well as a host more bands from 11am onwards.
A band you won’t see on the final lineup are Baby Animals, who were previously booked to play the festival when it first announced the host of local talent that would be joining the bill back in February, only for the rock band’s frontwoman Suze DeMarchi to issue a statement notifying of their withdrawal, reading “it wasn’t feeling right to us.”
The controversy continued when Stone Music Festival’s legal team contacted Tone Deaf directly about reporting on some disparaging remarks made by fellow concert promoter, Andrew McManus, as well as the festival’s response; the offending articles have since been amended or removed by legal request, with little to no contact from Stone Music Festival’s representatives following the matter.
Regardless, with the lineup now booked and the times locked in, it looks as if Stone Music Festival is ready to make a strong debut turn.
