As previously reported, late last year Wolfmother’s frontman Andrew Stockdale declared that the band’s long-awaited third album was “nearly finished.” While news broke last week that Wolfmother as fans know it would no longer exist, Stockdale proclaimed that he would be focusing on his solo work.
Stockdale made the surprisingly low key announcement that the Wolfmother name would be retired in an interview with Melbourne’s Herald Sun, revealing that the public’s last chance to see the group will be at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl supporting Aerosmith on April 28.
The recently released EP Keep Moving (which is downloadble on Itunes from here) is the first new material the former frontman has released since Wolfmother’s 2009 record Cosmic Egg. The long player album of the same name, is due for release in June of this year.
Having bolted out of the gates with the unprecedented self-titled debut in 2005, which later reached an acclaimed eighth position on Triple J’s ‘Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time’, Wolfmother’s luck, in true early-peaking form, ran out by the time its ineffectual sophomore Cosmic Egg came around in 2009.
This didn’t stop the group from touring continuously, including their last ever tour as a band, aoearing as one of Aerosmith’s special opening acts alongside Grinspoon, Spiderbait, The Dead Daisies, Kingswood and Diva Demolition.
Stockdale’s solo tour will kick off in early June and will see the singer travel along Australia’s east coast as well as some appearances in Perth. Check out the video for ‘Long WayTo Go’ below.
