The punk pop kings psych pop wizards are coming together for Melbourne and Sydney Splendour Side Shows!
Both set to perform at the very quickly sold out Splendour In The Grass, Wavves and Unknown Mortal Orchestra have now announced that they are teaming up for a mind-altering evening of skuzzy punk, psychedelia, bubble gum grunge – and perhaps, a moshpit.
Straight from the dungeons of LA, Nathan Williams (guitar) and Stephen Pope (bass), better known as Wavves, now sound bigger, brasher and shockingly more professional than ever, with their fourth album Afraid Of Heights (Pod/ Inertia).
The album’s bratty lead single ‘Sail To The Sun’, set the new tone, while the well crafted grungy anthem ‘Demon To Lean On’ inspired Rolling Stone to call the track “The greatest song yet by these twentysomething San Diego surf punks treats Nirvana like a killer thrift-shop find”.
The Portland by way of New Zealand indie-pop trio Unknown Mortal Orchestra return to Australia in support of their excellent new record, II.
The follow up to their much loved self-titled debut, II was recorded almost entirely by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Ruban Nielson in the converted basement of his family home in Milwaukee, Oregon. Drawing from psych rock, funk and soul, Nielson has penned an album of inventive, far out pop songs – including the wonderfully strange ‘Swim And Sleep (Like a Shark)’ and the heartbreaking and groovy ‘So Good At Being In Trouble’.
