Returning to Australia after a successful run, including a sold-out Northcote Social Club show in 2011, Britain’s Ghostpoet is set once more to demonstrate his innovate wordplay and electrifying live band show, continuing the tradition of favoured UK street poets like Mike Skinner and Roots Manuva.

His new album Some Say I, So I Say Light is currently getting great spins across the country and builds on the cult success of his Mercury Prize nominated debut Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam. Previous associations with the likes of Micachu have boosted his indie cred in his formative years but it’s been all Ghost in the lead up to Some Say I…

Obaro Ejimiwe, aka Ghostpoet, laughs when he remembers how Gilles Peterson “took a risk on a random maverick” back in 2010 by signing him to the Radio 1 DJ’s Brownswood imprint. Within a year, that risk paid off: Ghostpoet’s debut album, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam, marked him out as one of the most distinct, uncategorisable and forward-thinking voices to emerge in British music this decade, and it was rewarded with a surprise Mercury Prize nomination in 2011.

The lyrics that come through on Some Say I, So I Say Light are as rooted in everyday life as ever, though: from unopened mail to takeaway meals, Ghostpoet is never less than completely identifiable. It’s an album that positions Ghostpoet in the tradition of modern British auteurs as interested in pushing the boundaries sonically as expressing cathartic feelings.

Don’t miss Ghostpoet as he and his band bring the inimitable Ghostpoet sound to Australia once more off the back off the incredible new album Some Say I, So I Say Light.
